Warnings: Child abuse, abuse in general, head canon stuff
Effects: None
There's a young boy sitting near a dark haired woman. His clothes are too big for him and he has dark hair that looks almost greasy. He looks so much like her that there really can't be any mistake that this is his mother. And in her hands she has what looks like a slender stick that she's causing little lights to float out from him. The boy laughs as he watches them float through the air.
"They're beautiful."
"You could do this too after some training, Severus."
He looks up at her with wonder. "Do you think I could get in to the school too?"
She nods and he goes to lean against her as she makes the lights move about, floating through the air in pretty patterns. It's then that the door slams open and she gasps. Both of them turn quickly to find an angry man staring down at them.
"Didn't I tell you to put that foolish stick away?"
"But I wanted to give Severus a Christmas present..."
Suddenly a large hand has the boy by the hair and is pulling him away from his mother. Severus lets out a little pained shriek from the treatment but all the struggling does it make it worse. The woman reaches for him but soon cowers when the man begins to yell at her. It looks like he will end up striking her as well when suddenly everything in the room starts to shake. There are tears streaking down Severus' face before he lets out a scream and a book flies across the room to hit his father in the head.
Instantly the man drops him and the woman gathers the boy in her arms.
"Fine. You take that monster, Eileen. But no more of that witchcraft tonight. I won't allow it when I am trying to make this out presentable."
And with that the man left leaving the boy crying in his mother's arms. Softly, she began to whisper that yes he would get into Hogwarts. He would get into that school and become a great wizard...
Snape awakens and lifts up his wand. With a flick the Dreamberry shuts off. He refuses to let anyone see his reaction to such a memory.

...niche.

Date: 2011-12-11 05:42 am (UTC)[James can't help himself. Harry's told him all about that. And while he's trying to be fair for the sake of their shaky truce and this unfortunate memory, Snape is such an insufferable git that it makes it all very difficult. And they call him arrogant? Merlin.]
Headmaster is as impressive as it is shocking.
[Those poor students. Really.]

Date: 2011-12-11 05:48 am (UTC)[There is no way that he would just let that slide. He knows far more than this little upstart ever could. It wasn't from the Potions book of James Potter that Harry learned more than he ever had before. No. That book had been his.]
Perhaps you should obtain all your information before trying to correct mine.

Date: 2011-12-11 05:54 am (UTC)[He'd either heard wrong, or forgotten the information as useless; either way, they both knew it took a number of deaths and dismissals for him to reach any of those positions. James by hearsay, of course.]
Right you are-- I'll try to pay more attention next time your varied career comes up over tea.
[Sarcasm: He's rolling in it.]

Date: 2011-12-11 05:57 am (UTC)[Especially since he knows that the details about how he became Headmaster are sure to be taken the wrong way at first. Much like his final year at Hogwarts.]
Is there something you needed, Potter?

Date: 2011-12-11 06:06 am (UTC)[A pause. And then,]
Just that it looks--
[What? Like that was a hard way to grow up? No. He doesn't have to say it. They both know how that looks. And James is as out to be his friend as Severus is out to make him one. So, not at all.]
--like. Like your mother. You look a lot like your mum.
[Finishes, awkwardly. That's all the attempting he has in him for the night.
He also feels like he just insulted the poor woman with that comparison...]

Date: 2011-12-11 06:10 am (UTC)[Which he doesn't think insults her at all. But then again, he feels fonder feelings towards her than his father.]

Date: 2011-12-11 06:15 am (UTC)Probably for the best, hey?
[Snape was no looker, but his father seemed like an absolute consolation prize, by comparison.]

Date: 2011-12-11 06:25 am (UTC)[He's still in a mood but at least he's not trying to call him stupid. Mostly. For now.]

Date: 2011-12-11 06:51 am (UTC)[And, since like it or not Snape has known Harry for a lot longer than he has...]
Harry-- looked like me at around that age, did he?
[He's going to appreciate it if you actually indulge the question. He'd known both James and Harry at thirteen thereabouts. So he'd have a good perspective on the matter.]

Date: 2011-12-11 06:53 am (UTC)[There. He actually answered the question. Really it's the first reason why he disliked the boy.]
